I had the opportunity to interview Danny Nappi this week. He is the founder of the Salt Lake based brand Nappi Jeans. The few times I have met Danny he has always been super nice. He definitely has our respect and the Positive stamp of approval. Be sure to read the interview and check his website out @ nappiclothing.com

PositiveSLC: Lets start out with your name and what you do, maybe sum yourself up in a few sentences.
Danny: My name is Danny Nappi, I have been designing clothes for about 5 years. I studied Political Science and got my bachelors degree from the University of Utah in Political Science and proceeded directly to my own clothing company, specializing in denim jeans and t-shirts.

PositiveSLC: How long have you been designing clothing?
Danny: I originally started making my own clothing in about 2001, I was shopping at the Gap and hated looking like everyone else so I began altering my own clothes, and basically taught myself how to sew and make my own patterns. I then took a job at Lovesac where I was the product designer and furthered my designing and sewing skills. In 2005 I quit Lovesac after 2 years there and began Nappi. When I started I didn’t want to be just another t-shirt company so I set out to make the perfect fitting jeans and spent 2 years developing that pattern.

PositiveSLC: What kind of materials/product do you currently offer?
Danny: Currently we have 2 jean styles for men and 3 for women, we use only the best Japanese and Italian denim. We also just went to production on our own custom t-shirts in LA.

PositiveSLC: Where did you develop the idea for your brand and style, in short whats the story behind the brand?
Danny: The name Nappi comes from my last name it is of Italian decent, so I wanted the brand to have an Italian feel to it. I accomplished this by not only being a head of the fashion trends here in America, but also through my choice of logo. I choose a bull with wings because I love the symbolism of the Bull it is a very tenacious and strong animal, a bull never gives up and will fight to the death, this kind of focus and determination is what Nappi is all about. I then added wings to it because I love racing and the thrill, speed and agility that goes along with that. In short the brand is strong, tenacious, agile and focused, we will never stop.

PositiveSLC: What do you think sets you apart from other brands?
Danny: We offer the best fitting and most comfortable denim jeans using the best materials available. We believe that clothing doesn’t make one cool, but rather you are cool first and so you wear Nappi. Nappi represents clean lines and a great fit. We use greys, black, and white with splashes of bold color.

PositiveSLC: Anything or anyone inspire your work?
Danny: Like I said racing is a big part of my life I feel most comfortable behind the wheel of a car or riding a motorcycle at speeds I shouldn’t be going. Nappi clothing is like a race car in that there is now extra things on a race car, if it doesn’t enhance the speed or performance of the car it’s not there, no frill no flowers just performance.

PositiveSLC: How do you feel your audience connects with what you are trying to accomplish?
Danny: No matter how you feel about nappi or what you know of it, after you try on a pair of jeans you’re sold. Nappi breads life long fans, not only because the clothing fits is so good but because wearing nappi means your confident in yourself and don’t need your clothing to fit in or be cool, you are cool so you wear nappi.

PositiveSLC: Do you have any unique branding methods?
Danny: There is no secret we spend the time on making the fit perfect and then we use the best materials available and we get it made in America, and what we get from that is the best available product on the market. Most of our brand awareness comes from people telling others about their experience, if you provide a great product with a great experience you can’t help but be successful.
